The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a Netflix series released on 30th August 2019, consisting of 10 episodes of 45-50 minutes long. This show is a prequel to the 1982 movie by the Jim Henson Company.
Just like the movie, it all takes place in the world of Thra, set 1000 years before the movie. We're introduced to three main characters who are all Gelfling: Deet, Brea, and Rian. In the first episode, some of the history of Thra is quickly established, such as the birth of Augrah and the creation of the seven Gelfing clans. It's also established how the Skeksis got into power becoming the Guardians of the Crystal of Truth.
Without spoiling too much, here's what I think of the key parts of the show. As it's connected to not only the original movie but also to the Dark Crystal comics, I personally think it's a good addition to the Dark Crystal series.
The puppetry I think is perfect. The voice acting is absolutely on peak, and the music very settling for the tone of the show. Similarly the cinematography and casting are great. We have stars like Simon Pegg, Mark Hamil, Taron Egerton and Anya Taylor-Joy voicing the characters.
The soundtrack, the original theme from the movie in the first episode aside, I genuinely do believe that the orchestral soundtrack is perfect. Accompanied by the interesting costume design, it is very creative.
There has been some talks of either making a second season or making another show/movie to continue from Age of Resistance. Overall I think if you like a very well put together fantasy show with good acting, effects and music then I definitely recommend that you watch this show.
