Thoughts On That Cats Trailer...

Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson, Sir Ian McKellen, Idris Elba and Judi Dench are who I believe have now hit the bottom of their career.

The trailer for the 2019 movie adaptation of Cats has recently been released and, when I first saw that poster, I had high hopes. Now that I’ve seen the trailer, this has clearly not met my expectations.

Based on the 1981 play by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which is based on the book titled Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, the musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, and the night they make the 'Jellicle choice', deciding which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.

Upon seeing this trailer, as much as I wanted to like it, I just don’t like the way that this was presented. It’s pretty obvious that the studios that have produced this have clearly spent their budget on neither the animation style nor the character designs. they’ve obviously wasted it all on the cast of actors.

The casting choice isn’t terrible, I’ll admit, but the animation is awful and I thought that motion capture animation died out with movies like Polar Express and Mars Needs Moms.

The music is great (I’ll probably buy the soundtrack), but the character design is just outright pure nightmare fuel (and I thought the design for Sonic for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was terrifying!).

When the movie does come out I might do a review of it in the future. Until then, I'm not too impressed.
